The Black Friday Blog

At this time of year, the American Black Friday tradition is taken on in the UK in mass form – every brand offers incredible discounts on pretty much everything, and shopping for yourself or for others goes into overdrive to nab as many bargains as possible. We all love it don't we?!
As much as I love it too however, it does provide a platform for again, many to buy for the sake of it and commit the shopping sins I mentioned above, potentially reversing all the hard work that sustainable fashion movements have made.
I talk a lot about the importance of loving your clothes, and how seriously sustainability in fashion should be taken. Impulse buying clothes based on fickle trends that you don't truly devour, impulse buying poorly made clothes to own quantity over quality, or impulse buying purely based on sale prices and offers that feel too good to miss, are all factors which lead you down an unsustainable shopping route. When you don't truly love what you have, or the quality is poor and was bought just for the sake of it, then these items are closer to ending up in landfills sooner than could have been avoided.
Now I'd never be one to say not to shop – I'm open about loving fashion, shopping and affordable, versatile clothes, so I love every offer I see and what they allow me to add to my wardrobe unexpectedly, however, during these sales, I'd always maintain that you should still shop carefully and considerately.
It's easy to feel bombarded with all the current offers, sales, email discounts, membership prices etc etc, so to therefore avoid being overwhelmed or buying pieces for the sake of it, have a look at my chosen pieces which I've put together for a Black Friday edit, consisting of considered pieces which are versatile, reasonable in price and good quality; all are classic pieces with just subtle nods to trends and from a variety of brands. The few higher priced point options are from brands I'd consider to be the best quality on the high street that are worth the slight investment given the current discounts, but generally, every piece is a reasonable and fair price – happy shopping! And remember – buy only what you love!
