My 2020 love for lavender

Will anyone ever forget the year 2020? Such a weird time, the worst for many, in fact. But talking fashion in 2020, designers and trends didn't have the chance to showcase themselves in the manner they usually would, and rightly so I guess.
Trends for this year weren't as prominent as they are in normal years, but having said that, one trend which didn't go unnoticed was variations in shade and tone of the colour purple – I'm talking lilacs, lavenders, purples, plums, mauve's and periwinkles! I don't personally think that a colour has been as big in a long time; obviously within each season there are always colours bigger than others, but this shade in SS20 to me, has been bigger than most others in a long time – and I'm not complaining!
I just LOVE this colour, and always have. To me, these shades offer an alternative to Pink, but do the same job. They're feminine, summery, but versatile. You can keep them in their feminine form by pairing with other soft colours and styles, but they also look amazing hardened up with black and biker boots if you want to get steer away from overly feminine pink.

I've found that these shades have long been associated with older fashion and Mother of the bride; when I worked at Jacques Vert HQ, each Spring Summer season we would launch a lilac collection, and it seemed to be everyones least favourite in the office, and I always loved it all! I remember one specific collection, it was in SS16, called F1A (really creative collection name) and though tailored towards an older lady, I still adored everything! I've managed to find some pieces from the collection I remember so well, but what I've been seeing this season, has taken me back, for the good! Now I know these items aren't the height of fashion but aren't they just lovely? Classy, sophisticated and timeless, and the quality was impeccable!
The detailing was so intricate; back neck bows, tonal beading and the most beautiful hand painted prints, which is why the brand and collection was considered premium, and with good reason I believe. I'll be talking more about my time at Jacques Vert soon, but I've loved looking back at this collection!

This colour has been everywhere, and I've purchased some of my favourite pieces this SS and shot some of the outfits, and I am SO HAPPY with them all! I think I'll be wearing this colour way after it's had it's limelight, I've always loved it, and I think I always will! I can see it going deeper and darker in tone for AW, so I don't think it's going anywhere just yet, thankfully in my eyes.
The outfit worn in my lavender field shoot seemed so fitting; I decided to pull out my Pretty Little Thing white satin prom skirt - I just love the shape and volume of it. I've had it for just over a year now so it is quite old in the Pretty Little Thing world, but I find it to be a classic and a staple for my wardrobe that I can wear each year that'll go with loads. Obviously it was a perfect match for the feminine image I wanted for this shoot, and looked great with one of my new lilac pieces this season, my satin blouse from Shein. Not bad quality at all, and with a tie at the back of the neck it also looked gorgeous with my ASOS lilac hair bow that I've been waiting to wear, and some of my kitten heels in lilac which I've had for years from New Look - I've never got rid of them because again, for me, they're a classic and match loads of my clothes. I loved this outfit, it all matched and came out exactly how I wanted it to!

We went to a lavender field in Hitchin, and it was really easy to find, easy to access and gorgeous to walk around, even with a sunflower patch too - I cant recommend it enough! £4 entry only, with 2 hour time slots as you had to book due to Covid restrictions, but it really was such a lovely morning – and it seemed the perfect place to go to finish off SS20 nicely in order to slowly prepare myself for the cold and AW20 fashion...so watch this space!
